Welcome to Book of Mozilla

Welcome to bookofmozilla.org

Welcome to the Book of Mozilla portal for former employees of Netscape Communications Corporation and susequently AOL in the division that was Netscape. Back in the day, Netscape wasn't a place to work . Wikipedia on Netscape Communications Corporation Netscape was a place to change the world. There was incredible media focus on the every action and announcement of the organization. When Mozilla spoke the world listened. Netscape went from it's inception in 1994 a major technology leader to the end 2003 becoming effectively nothing but an AOL Brand. Over the many intervening years the organization and employees faced a varied set of different business challenges and business mandated conditions. This portal is designed to be a place for all the former Netscape employees to interact and keep in touch.

Years ago I set up a portal for ex-netscapers, it was located at http://ex-mozilla.wegov2.com. (now a referral page for this location) The ex-netscape members of that portal exceeded 1300 persons. That portal has been terminated and now refers to this site. If you are one of the former employees that have received invitation e-mails from me inviting you to join this portal you were likely a former member of ex-mozilla portal.

The purpose of this portal is to provide an opportunity to interact with former Netscape folks in a forum and community restricted to former employees. There are a number of capabilities of the platform including Shared Files, Directory, Content Creation and Display, consumes RSS/XML feeds, Job Boards, Discussion Boards, Calendar, Sub-Portals that inherit content, Chat Rooms, etc. We will associating the site with a wiki that will provide a spot for all members of the portal to post stories, images and lore of Netscape. I read Revolution in The Valley recently and the concept of the http://folklore.org/ site where Apple Employees can formally post stories was interesting. I envision that Netscape Communications and the Internet Bubble should certainly generate some interesting stories.

Please join the portal by clicking on the 'new users' link in the upper left portion of the header. Once your request to join the community is approved you will be sent and e-mail and granted full access to the portal.

The portal software is Readyportal™ from reddog software and we haven't totally settled on the wiki. There is tremendous opportunity to develop this community in directions that you as members see fit. We would welcome any support from individuals willing spend time developing and managing any common content areas or the like.

Best Regards,

John Menkart
